FD Diva Friday Chronicles - Diva Lettrice Lawrence

Hello! Welcome to another edition of FB Diva Friday Chronicles. With each passing week I grow more and more encouraged as friends unfold their special gifts and abilities here at Chronicles. This week is certainly no exception as I am pleased to present the very gifted and accomplished vocalist and songwriter,  Diva Lettrice Lawrence.

Hello Lettrice; thank you for graciously accepting the invite and there is so much that you have going on. For those who do not know, please share with the readers just who is Lettrice Lawrence?

Lettrice:   My name is Lettrice Lawrence and I am a Native of Los Angeles, CA. I have been singing since age 4 at Mt. Carmel Church. My dad was a minister and my mom is a licensed minister and evangelist. I am the youngest out of 5 with 4 brothers. I attended Dublin Elementary, Transfiguration Jr High, St. Mary's Academy Highschool, Mt. St. Mary's College, M.T.I. Bible College and West Los Angeles College. I have three degrees. I have Classical vocal training 23 yrs. Under Dr. Karl Snider and Joyce Sweeney. I also have studied vocal pedagogy, the Alexander Technique and Recording Arts. I was honored to sing backgrounds with Barbara Streisand on her Timeless Farewell Tour.

Also worked with Ralph Johnson (Earth, Wind & Fire), Herman Andrus, Charles Dickerson(Innercity Youth Orchestra), Anthony Parnther( South East Symphony), Nobresil, Mopreme Shakur, The Boys and many more... I have performed at 7 KJLH events this past year. I sang in two Gospel Brunches, Two Firework Show Extravaganza's, headlined for The Food Truck Vendor, Sang at Juneteenth Celebration and The Annual Tree Lighting Celebrate in Leinmart Park. I am a member of One Foundation ( Choral Group) and Genesis: The Balm ( Gospel, Pop and Jazz Tour)

Chronicles:  This is quite impressive.  So you have a diverse genre of music that you perform, what is the extent of the scope of the music that you sing and enjoy the most?

Lettrice:   I am the Co-Music Director at Morningside UCC. I
sing classical, gospel, jazz, pop, r & b, easy listening, blues and do spoken word pieces on occasion. I love classical, jazz and Gospel the most. My original pieces are mixed with all three genres. I love to tell stories about real life! Most of all performing live. I have created tracks and my own music with Brandon Ford and Devin Shaw. Our production team is called SmoothSoul Productions. We are members of ASCAP. Our plan is to tour Europe and then the whole world with the band, Homegrown.

Chronicles: You stated that you produce with Brandon Ford and Devin Shaw, how do you three collaborate on the music that you perform and is there a particular theme that you approach with your music?

Lettrice: My producers: Brandon Ford and Devin Shaw are my life line. We are a great team. We work out of our own studio then get the music mastered at Big city Studios in Grenada Hills, Paul Tavaneer. Our message is that of hope, social change and justice, love, the power of letting go of pain, forgiveness and spiritual enlightenment. I aim to touch the hearts of many and bring healing & light to those who are broken.

Chronicles: Also earlier, you stated that you like to tell about real life. Your song "You're a Part of Me" has a special meaning to you, care to share?

Lettrice:  You're A Part of Me was inspired by me moving to
my mom and dad's home in 2010 with my husband, to care for my dad with cancer and blood clots. It was a very painful time because he was so sick. We left our home to be with them. Thus, You're A Part of Me was created for my Hear Me, Lord: The Collaborations album.

Chronicles:  With such vocal versatility, I have to ask who where/are your musical influences?

Lettrice:  Minnie Riperton,
Denise Williams, Leontyne Price, Whitney Houston and Karen Clark Sheard has inspired me the most. Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Maria Callas and Yolanda Adams are my favorite recording stars. Classical training has shaped my voice bit I grew up in the church and been singing since age 4. Imitating sounds and songs since age 2. I purposely display my love of traditional gospel, jazz, NeoSoul and Classical. I even love the blues!!!! I have a recent video of Stormy Monday that I enjoyed recording!! Fun music. All genres speak to me in volumes!

Chronicles: I've been listening to your latest release and two songs just jump right out and display your NeoSoul direction. Tell us about "Moonlight Chaser" and "She Wants it All".

Lettrice:   Moonlight Chaser was Brandon Ford and Devin
Shaw came up with concept. It was fun and helped me to display my fun side. I do not get to let my hair down enough. I felt free with this song. It is all about having fun after a hard day of work! She Wants It All was something my producers, Brandon Ford and Devin Shaw did off the cuff for fun! We are talking about a woman who wants it all...in terms of a relationship. We just let loose and had a good time on this song as well.

Chronicles: And that's what it's about Lettrice.  Now, I always like to ask, how can the readers access and support your music and career?

Lettrice:   My gospel album, Hear Lord:The Collaborations is on cdbaby, ITunes and Amazon. My samples of music is on soundcloud. My new music, Neo Soul album, Another Side of Me is on lettricelawrence.com, Amazon.com or Itunes.apple.com

Chronicles: Now the acronym for Diva is Divinely Inspired, Victoriously Ascending. Could you share with the readers what these two phrases means to you?

Lettrice: Divinely Inspired means that God has shinned His light on me and filled me with His love so that I may touch others in song. I am inspired to sing although I have battled a disabling, muscular and deadly chronic disease for 23 yrs. I have been given a new lease on life to uplift, inspire and encourage others that no matter what happens, never give up or give in! Being Victoriously Ascending means being elevated by God, winning through Him! Elevating through His grace. If He elevates you go higher and higher. No weapon formed against you can prosper. You are unstoppable! I feel that this is going to be a year of Victoriously Ascending!

Chronicles:  I'd like to thank our very special guest Diva Lettrice Lawrence for being such an inspiration today. Please stop buy and purchase her music.
